Population Institute Welcomes First Walker Fellow

The Population Institute is pleased to announce our inaugural Robert J. Walker Fellow, Halima Lila. Halima hails from Tanzania and is currently completing her Ph.D. in population health at the University of Ottawa, Canada. This new PI Fellowship honors the legacy of Bob Walker, PI’s past president for twelve years, from 2009 to 2021. Halima recently addressed a memorial gathering to remember Bob and celebrate his achievements.

The Walker Fellowship supports early-career scholars interested in sustainability, demography, security, economic development, human rights, and diplomacy. Walker Fellows will be part of our longstanding Fellowship Program, whose scholars support PI in clarifying and communicating how population dynamics and demographic shifts relate to social, political, and economic development globally. Fellows also help PI to educate policymakers, the media, and other people in power about the importance of our mission.
