Outreach to Parliamentarians Worldwide
PI is working to build dialogue among parliamentarians interested in population and development issues in order to build understanding of, and commitment to, sound population and reproductive health policies and to develop effective strategies for getting them adopted. Working with groups such as the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), the Population Institute is designing programs and workshops that can help parliamentarians in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa better understand the benefits of family planning. We provide parliamentarians with the latest information about family planning and its critical relevance to maternal and child health, women's rights, educational attainment, economic development, the environment, and political stability. We also facilitate the sharing of information and experiences that can help parliamentarians devise new strategies for expanding voluntary family planning services in developing countries with a high unmet need for family planning.
