Frequent visitors to our website may have noticed that there has been a change in our population clock.
Prior to today, it was synchronized with the latest population estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. Today,
we have changed the clock to coincide with the latest population projection issued by the United Nations Population Division, which announced earlier this year that world population will cross the 7 billion mark on October 31,
2011. As a result of this change, our clock now indicates, as of today, that world population is at 6.983 billion,
just 17 million shy of the 7 billion mark. This change will enable visitors to determine how close we are, at any
given minute, to the 7 billion mark as officially estimated by the UN.
