Population Sahalli* is a web-based resource that allows the free exchange of resources and ideas, bringing together diverse groups of people in an active dialogue about population-related issues. Rapid population growth underlies any discussion of almost every other issue of global importance, including such wide ranging topics as global warming, global security, women’s empowerment, poverty, HIV/AIDS, and child and maternal mortality. This resource would illustrate the interconnections between each of these concerns.
Unlike existing databases, Population Sahalli allows multiple levels of users to input, access, and discuss population-related data, policy, research and results. Current users include policy experts from the U.S. government and NGOs, academics, health practitioners and activists. Registration and participation in the program is free.

*Sahalli is the name of the program this site runs on. Derived from Chinook Indian jargon, Sahalli means “high ground”: an appropriate epithet given the bird’s eye perspective on population issues that this site provides.
