Hal Burdett is the Population Institute’s Vice President for Communications, Executive Editor of Popline, the Institute’s bimonthly newsletter, and Editor of the 21st Century Papers monograph series. He has produced editions of Popline at population and development conferences in Brazil, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkey and the United Kingdom. He has attended Institute study tours in Bangladesh, Nepal and Zimbabwe. Prior to joining the Institute, he was an award-winning political columnist and editorial writer with daily newspapers in the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area. More than 200 of his freelance articles have been published in magazines and newspapers. He has managed a Maryland gubernatorial campaign and served as communications director and special assistant in congressional campaigns. |

Sujata Chakraborty is a consultant for the Population Institute. Sujata joined PI in 2004 as a Future Leaders fellow. As the Media Coordinator, she was in charge of the layout/production of Popline, coordinating media coverage of the Educate America campaign, doing research and composing news releases, facts sheets, brochures and correspondences. Prior to consulting, she was the Institutes’ Administrative Director. Sujata is a graduate of Hood College, MD with a Bachelor Degree in Communication Arts. At Hood College, Sujata worked in the Office of Multicultural Affairs for three years. She was also a Media Relations Intern at BAE Systems North America. Sujata’s accomplishments include her participation at Rotary International Awareness meetings, her election as President of the Hood College International Club and the position of Associate Editor of the college newspaper. Sujata is now the founder/director of Pragati International, an organization working on creating income-generating opportunities for women in India while educating their children.

William Johnson, M.B.A., M.P.H. joined the Population Institute in 2006 as the Vice President for Development and Planning. Bill has extensive business and international development experience including 15 years of directing, managing, implementing and evaluating large family planning and health projects in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. He has broad experience in strategic development, marketing professional services, financial management, and evaluation. He has extensive experience in international donor coordination, especially with the UNFPA, the World Bank and has been a representative in various international venues. He speaks Bahasa Indonesia. |

Kimberly Douglas is the Institute’s Administrative Director. Kimberly oversees the Institute’s website, database and coordinates the Global Media Awards and the Future Leaders Fellowship program. Kimberly joined PI in July 2007. Prior to PI, Kimberly gained experience in customer service, special events, meeting planning, administrative, operations and systems management in nonprofit & corporate organizations. While attending Frostburg State University, Kimberly worked at WPGC 95.5 FM as a broadcast news intern. After graduation, Kimberly was employed by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, where she served as ACRPs 1st Education Services Representative. ACRPs vision positioned Kimberly to become a key player in the design and implementation of their Customer Service Center. Later, Kimberly worked as ACRP’s Administrative Assistant to the CEO/Meetings Assistant. In 2005, Kimberly joined the Forum for Youth Investment as their Office/Meetings Manager. She also served as the primary liaison for outside HR firms and internally for staff. Kimberly has a Masters degree in Organizational Communications and Human Resources from Bowie State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications, Ballet and Modern Dance from Frostburg State University.

Jordan Neill is the Population Institute’s Program Assistant and Development Coordinator. Jordan works with Mr. Johnson in Strategic Development, and also assists in the Institute’s event planning, database management, and works to keep members informed on important activities at the Institute. Before working at PI, Jordan co-managed the Nepali office and worked on various international aid projects for PEOPLink, including a business networks training program in Lima, Perú organized by the Swiss Import Promotion Program, and field work with CHF International that sent her to the Chapare in Bolivia. Jordan is a graduate of Oberlin College with majors in History and Hispanic Studies, an International Studies Concentration and an East Asian Studies minor. Jordan’s interest in international studies has led her to study art history in Mexico, sustainable agriculture in Italy, and literature and history in Spain. Jordan is proficient in Spanish, and has also studied French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, German, Turkish, and Korean.

Cynthia D. Middleton, the Director of Finance for the Population Institute has many years of public, private and non-profit experience. She has expertise in the areas of strategic planning, development and financial management. Cynthia has worked for OWL, the voice of midlife and older women, Senior Services of America (formerly the National Senior Citizens Education and Research Center, the American College of Cardiology and Robert Half and Associates. Cynthia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Maurice L. Williams
Before accepting the position as the Director of Public Policy and Education with the Population Institute, Dr. Maurice Williams was the Program Manager for Economic and Workforce Development at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) where he served since September 2001. Prior to coming to AASCU, he has taught at all levels from high school to postsecondary. He has served as an English teacher in the Prince George County Public School System and has also taught in the D.C. Public School System. He also served as an Assistant Professor at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC. He has also worked at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and at Iowa State University as a Minority Retention Counselor.
He received a Bachelor of Art degree in Urban Studies from the University of the District of Columbia and a Master degree in Public Administration from the Pennsylvania State University. He has also earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education from Iowa State University where he completed his dissertation on the "Impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 on two Urban Universities."
